Shareholder Registers are required by company law and serve as an official record of all shareholders in the company.
What is a Share Register?
A Shareholder register is a list of all active and former owners a company’s shares. The register will include details of shareholders such as their name, address, the number of shares they own, the class of any share held, the date they became a shareholder and if applicable, the date that they ceased being a shareholder. The shareholder register is the ultimate source of proof of who the shareholders in the company are and what shares they hold.
As such, it is essential that your company registers are accurate and correctly reflect the current and previous shareholding and directorship structure of your company.
Shareholder registers are required to be updated by a company’s Director(s) on an ongoing basis to ensure that every current shareholder is recorded in the register.
Why do you need my Share Register?
As part of our service, we update and maintain your shareholder registers for you in line with the relevant company law requirements. To be able to take this administrative task off your shoulders, we need to make sure that the register of directors and register of members (shareholders) for your company are held in only one location.
It is a company law requirement that only one final set of registers are stored and so as part of your onboarding process, we produce your company registers and cancel/destroy any previous registers (if required) so that we can ensure that as your company secretary, we hold the only version of your registers.
Where can I get my Share Register?
If you are bringing on your company to GetGround's platform, you may or may not have a shareholder register already. The best place to check in the first instance is to speak with your company formation agent (if you used one).
If you don't have a share register or are happy for us to create a new one for you, we can also do that for you as well as part of the onboarding process.
If you are setting up a company through GetGround, we will automatically create one for you.
